We had our “end of year” dorm meeting tonight – fairly painless. Then we went to our hall meetings, and since our RA is too lazy to climb stairs, ours was most definitely in the lobby of Anderson – but then he didn’t even talk, he let one of the other RA’s give the speech while he sat there and… sat there. Oh well.

Cowboy Band Formal was this weekend; we sat at tables on the stage of the Paramount Theater in Abilene… awesome. Period. I took Kingslee (she looked wonderful), and David took Crystal (and she looked wonderful), and we all had a great time. Pictures are here, or can be accessed from the Photo Gallery (link on the right).

I got to be a nerd; background music was provided via my PowerBook, which I controlled via Salling Clicker (a bluetooth remote program for my Nokia 6620), from the other side of the theater.

Wes Hayes was the speaker, and I enjoyed listening to him speak. He is the current President of the Cowboy Band Foundation, and was a CBB freshman with the likes of Lawson Hager, so he had some interesting things to say.

Entertainment went good, better than any of us expected. First, David gave a boring speech (on purpose), and Trey was supposed to tackle him off the stage, but he didn’t (hence the “supposed to”). Then we did a skit where everybody (one at a time) went out on stage, brushing their teeth, and spit into a cup, and at the end Lexia drank the spit (gross, right?). Then, after Heather and Carleigh handed out some of our goofy awards, it was time for Barry’s papal procession, where we picked him up in his chair and carried him around the room, ending up at the front, where we sat him down, and he was “crowned” with the papal hat Holly and Lindsay made, and we gave him a Ring Pop for a ring, and we all kissed his ring. It was pretty funny, and he went with it; we thought he’d resist. Anyways, after that, Lindsay and David went into an impromptu version of Amazing Grace; props to Lindsay for goin’ with it and David for following. We handed out a couple more awards, and then played a song I synthesized; a version of “Barry’s Mom,” (the song “Stacy’s Mom” with the lyrics changed to say “Barry’s Mom”), and we were done.

Overall, I think we had fun doing it, and the upperclassmen enjoyed watching it. We were also in charge of the centerpieces, and props to Holly and Lindsay on the idea of goldfish in a bowl and putting a floating candle in the top – it looked very nice (even though the Paramount wouldn’t let us light the candles).

Then we were awarded our CBB belt-buckles, Sean was announced as President of the Cowboy Band for 2005-2006, we sang some songs, and we were done.

Afterwards, we went to Barry’s apartment and watched a video Keith made, and then Moulin Rouge (IMDBOffical Site), which I didn’t like much of the first half (it was odd), but the second half was good.

I had an absolutely wonderful evening; a fitting end to a great year of Cowboy Band.

So… this is it. This is the last week. I have one exam Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, and I’m done. Won’t be gone till Friday, but still… one week, and I’m done with my freshman year; 2 semesters down, 6 to go. It’s a good feeling.

Plug in. Sia bene.
