Yet again…

It would seem that we’ll be internet-less this weekend. Thank you Comcast for your wonderful service.

Not.

So… give me a call.

Oh, and today is System Administrator Appreciation Day. This would include… me. Check out the link, I’ll be accepting any of the suggested gifts (minus the alcohol related ones) as payment for any past and/or future assistance I have given or will give you. :-)

(Yeah, found this stuff courtesy of my roommate last fall… weird, I know. Don’t listen to this stuff much, but – it’s good.)

Get this…

I am writing this with the Nokia 770 tablet… I managed to get my hands on one… and I must say, I am impressed. Though it is a Nokia product, it is not a phone (yet – more on that in a minute)… it’s main function is as an “internet services” device… hence it’s biggest feature – integrated wi-fi. What makes this really cool though is that it’s powered by Linux – which means the platform is open source – which means that it should be easy for developers to write programs for it… which is why I say it’s not a phone – yet. I wouldn’t be surprised if a VoIP program showed up, along with the many other free software apps that will be written for this thing… very cool in my book.

Yes, it’s true… I have a car!

Specs:

  • Dodge Intrepid – 1999
  • 3.2 liter V6
  • Auto-manual transmission (auto and clutch-less manual)
  • 9 speaker Infinity audio system
  • Leather seating
  • A huge trunk

Extreme thanks to my grandmother and family. I’m still shocked.

In other news… the summer is coming to a close. Only 1 month left. Wow. And it’s always the last month of the summer that disappears the fastest.

I’m hooked on the new Battlestar Galactica series. It appeals to my inner-nerd because of the sci-fi thing… but it’s also good television. It’s one of those shows where everything is not hunky-dory. Last season ended with the captain of the ship getting 2 shots in the chest from a member of his own crew, and the captian’s son is being held in the brig on charges of mutiny (not related to the shooting)… it’s also filmed in a very “real” way… good shots – and the special effects are used in the same way – it’s very well done. I suggest you give it a shot even if you don’t like “sci-fi” things… Fridays at 9 PM (CST) on the Sci-Fi channel.

* Edit: It would appear that I’ll be internet-less all weekend. How will I survive? This means if you need/want to talk to me, don’t wait for me to get online… it won’t happen. Call me; you should have my number.
* Edit 2: And now it would appear internet is back… hmm… you could still call me though.

My thoughts and prayers go out to the people of London, as they continue to be attacked for supporting freedom.

Long time no post… oops. Probably too much to post now…

Yes, I’m back from the Texas Cowboy Reunion and Rodeo… pictures are in the gallery. Good times, good times.

Went to the Ranger’s game on July 4th; watched them whip up on the Boston Red Sox. Pretty good fireworks show there too. Again – pictures in the gallery.

I’ve been sick the last few days… I think it’s hampering my ability to remember what I wanted to post about…

Forbes has a list out of the richest (most expensive) zip codes in the nation… it’s an interesting list, with some interesting facts:

  • The highest median cost of a home in these zip codes in 2004 was $2,496,533 in Atherton, California.
  • The lowest median cost of a home in these zip codes in 2004 was $699,000, in New York, New York.
  • The median cost of a home doesn’t dip below $1,000,000 until the 67th richest zip code.
  • Not one Texas zip code makes the list.

In other news, Lance Armstrong (currently in third place overall after the 9th of the 21 stages of the Tour de France) is said to have hinted at possibly running for governor of Texas in the future… I can’t say I know his beliefs, or where he would stand on the issues… but I know he would stand on them. I think he has more resolve and determination than many if not most of today’s politicians… any thoughts?

That’s all I’ve got.
