This post is kind of a cop-out, in that it is merely a repost from a blog that I frequent… however, it spoke to me, and I felt I should share. The text is from John 6:26 & 27.

Circumstances. Aren’t circumstances just great? Whether they are good or bad, they always seem to be there and they always seem to have a profound influence on your day, your attitude and pretty much just generally how you feel about things. So let me ask you this. Is you perception of God based on your circumstances?

Jesus says some pretty profound words in verse 26, “The truth is, you want to be with me because I fed you, not because you saw the miraculous sign.” In other words, he says that the people were more interested in the blessings than they were the blesser. Their circumstance were what was important.

What if you found yourself in a really bad situation…maybe you had some control over it, maybe you didnt. Maybe you brought it upon yourself, maybe you didnt. Either way, you’re in it. Do those times make you see God any differently? Do you think he’d put you in a painful situation….like on purpose?

I fear that many of us put way more stock in God’s promises, or blessings, or what he does than we do in God himself. Here’s the thing. God is unchanging. If you believe that, then what do your circumstances matter? If you’re in a bad spot, God is who he is. If you’re in a great situation, God is who he is.

So. Think about this. Ask yourself this question.

Are you more in love with God? Or, are you more in love with what God does for you?
