Thankful

Posted on November 24th, 2005 in Posts | No Comments »

I am thankful for…

Showers at home. Showers in the dorm just don’t cut it, y’all know what I’m talking about.

Food at home. The caf don’t cut it either.

My mother, who never gets tired of me and my needing a hug. She’s also a fair cook.

My father, who makes the bacon so that I can go to school.

The rest of my family.

My friends, who I could not do without.

The people that put with put up with me and my crap on a daily basis.

A loving God that puts up with me and my crap all the time – and doesn’t smite me.

Sunday: The Day Of Rest

Posted on November 21st, 2005 in Posts | No Comments »

It’s been semi-productive day?

Went to church this morning at University. Today, for the first time in a very long time they used their baptistry, which was awesome on many levels.

Lunch was tortilla soup. How I have come to love tortilla soup. Surprisingly, the Caf’s tortilla soup isn’t half bad (when it’s not just broth and oil).

Then, I spent my afternoon sunglasses hunting – and succeeded. I may end up buying another pair (I had two pair, but broke both of them recently)… but I like these because they’re really dark, or rather, they’re darker than most I’ve found.

Next on my afternoon escapade was a car wash. (Side Rant: It annoys me how people say “I went to get a car wash.” No you didn’t, because it’s not like you brought the car wash home with you, now did you? No… end rant.) I was a little skeptical about it… how can a machine wash a car (and do a good job) without touching it? Answer: pressure washing. It actually did a decent job; I was impressed. On a deeper level, I conquered my fear of the car wash. As a little kid, there was something about driving into a tiny building and getting water sprayed at you but not on you… and those huge spinning brush things (before the miracle of the touchless car wash was invented)…

Dinner was at Texas Roadhouse. I’d never been, but wow… the bread and that cinnamon butter… amazing. All I had was a salad and those rolls… mmm…

Then I saw Harry Potter and the Goblet Of Fire. What a movie. Very powerful and moving. Sad, yet funny; somber, yet joyful – one of the better movies I’ve seen in a while. Besides, according to Lindsay, Ron Weasly is “hott,” and who am I to argue with her?

That’s all for now I suppose. Y’all have a good Thanksgiving break and holiday, and please, for all our sakes, be careful!

80? in November?

It’s about to get real cold – be ready. Cold front moves in Tuesday morning/early afternoon, and the low Tuesday night will be in the low 30′s. Won’t that be exciting? It’s about bloody time (and yes, I know I’m not English).

If you haven’t noticed, Facebook has added a “My Photos” option. And once again, I am addicted to Facebook. I especially like how you can tag the images with the people who are in them, though I wish they had a feature to say who took the picture; I know I didn’t take all my pictures, and I know others have pictures up that I’ve taken – it’d be neat if we could give eachother credit for that.

Not having to get up till 10am is a glorious thing. That’s right, I’m done with chapel… for this semester at least. Just one more semester…

I’ve found the first textbook I actually want to read. It’s Linux Shell Scripting with Bash. Yes, it’s a “computer” book; but a good one – it’s actually readable.

I want to write more, but don’t know what to write about.

Well, it’s been awhile…

And, as such, much has happened since my last post – much that I won’t even try to remember.

I have an iPod now. Yes, it’s true. And wonderful. Yes, it was expensive, but worth it.

School is going well. I’m enjoying my classes and the work isn’t terribly difficult – but I am looking forward to the coming holiday breaks. Thanksgiving will be good; my grandmother will be in town, and that will be cool since I haven’t seen her since… the summer. Then it’s just one more week of “school,” then it’s finals week and we’ll be out of here for our awesome 5 week Christmas break before we know it. I’ve found myself missing my family more. I thought that I’d miss them less as time went by, but instead I miss them more.

Lindsay and I went to see the new Wallace & Gromit movie last night; it’s really funny, though it had a couple hinted “dirty” parts that I don’t remember seeing in their other films… but still hilarious – go and see it.

Upcoming holidays means the Cowboy Band will be getting busy soon. We will be marching the Chuy’s Christmas Parade in Austin the Saturday after Thanksgiving. The next weekend, we’ll march the Ranger Christmas Parade in Ranger on Friday night, and the Neiman-Marcus Adolphus Christmas Parade in Dallas on Saturday morning. Keep in mind, the Adolphus parade is nationally syndicated, meaning you can watch us from home… or if you live in the Dallas area, you should come see the parade live…

In other news, I’ve revived my pictures page (the “Main Gallery”). Go have a look.

Plug in. Sia bene.
